A native of Carlow, William Byrne was an RIC constable who was stationed in Kilmurray until he married Mary Riordan from Crookstown. He was moved away from Kilmurray after marrying (normal protocol), and transferred to Millstreet after marrying in 1914, and remained here until the breakup of the RIC in 1922, being promoted to sergeant in 1920.

the article states that he was a pupil in the Presentation Convent until 1923, but the RIC left here around February 1922. Did the family stay on here for some time? or is this an error.

Hello..Fr Jim was my mother Philomena’s brother along with Frank and Billy. They all grew up in Tullow Co.Carlow after barracks in Millstreet closed and went to school there, lived in barracks also so think my grandad William Byrne continued on in RIC or Garda until they moved to Clontarf in Dublin at later stage where my mam met my Dad. Billy joined merchant navy and was prisoner of war in 40’s met and married girl from Tullow and lived in London. Uncle Frank died young in Dublin and left wife and 3 children. Fr Jim always stayed with us in Clontarf or went to Kiltegan while home from Africa.I have visited his grave in Kiltegan he was such an interesting man . . Mary

Robert (Bob) MORAHAN [Parents] died in 1980 in Clontarf, Dublin. Robert married Phyllis BYRNE. They had Jean (Furlong) and Mary (O’Connor).
Jean MORAHAN was born about 1954. She died in 2006:
FURLONG (née Morahan) (Sutton and formerly of Clontarf) – November 29, 2006 (peacefully), after a long illness, at home, surrounded by her loving family, Jean, loving mother of the late Jane; sadly missed by her adoring husband Declan, son Robert, daughter Gillian, sister Mary, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and many friends. Rest in peace. Removal this (Friday) morning from her residence to St Fintan’s Church, Sutton, arriving at 10.50 o’clock for 11 o’clock Mass, thence funeral to Glasnevin Crematorium.
