Imbolc 2011 – Smaointe den scoth i mBaile Bhuirne!

Information in Irish follows the English version.

On the 12th of February eight of the most original and innovative thinkers in Ireland gather in Ballyvourney, Co. Cork, to give a day of talks on the ground-breaking projects they are working on. The name of the conference is “Imbolc”, and perhaps the most innovative facet of the whole event is that it is taking place entirely through the medium of the Irish language. This event is a perfect antidote to the negativity and paralysis that many in Ireland feel at the moment, and our goal is to inspire and challenge the audience to push the borders in their own thinking.

It is a one-day event, with each of the eight speakers given twenty minutes to make their presentation. As the speakers come from a wide range of disciplines, including business, science, the arts, and technology, this format will give the greatest opportunity for variety and the greatest possibility for cross-pollination of ideas.

Irish information

Tá Imbolc 2011 (www.imbolc.ie), comhdháil Ghaeilge inspioráideach, ag dul ar aghaidh ar an Satharn 12 Feabhra 2011, san Ionad Cultúrtha, Baile Bhúirne, Co. Chorcaí. Is tionól aon lá amháin é, agus beidh Gaeilgeoirí iontacha ag caint ann, daoine a bhfuil obair nó taighde ceannródaíoch ar bun acu ó gach aon earnáil den saol – gnó, na healaíona, na heolaíochtaí & srl. Tá ríméad orainn go bhfuil cainteoirí den chéad scoth againn arís i mbliana, le saothar agus scéalta fíorspéisiúla ag gach duine acu.

Tá an chomhdháil ar siúl ar bhonn go hiomlán neamhbhrábhúsach – tá sé á eagrú agam agus ag mo bhean chéile mar thionscadal pearsanta, agus tá na cainteoirí ag tabhairt a gcuid ama saor in aisce don ócáid. Bheimis fíor-bhuíoch díot dá bhféadfá poiblíocht a thabhairt don ócáid. Tá na sonraí go léir thíos anseo, ag tosnú leis na cainteoirí.

Dónal Lunny
Tá an cur síos “ceoltóir cáiliúil” i bhfad róbheag don fhear seo, ach níl spás a dhóthain anseo gach éacht a bhfuil déanta aige a bhreacadh síos! Beidh ceolchoirm speisialta san Ionad Cultúrtha ag Dónal an oíche roimh an gcomhdháil chomh maith.

Naoise Ó Conchubhair
Dearthóir a bhain amach na duaiseanna “Dearthóir Óg na Bliana”, agus “Céimí na bliana” i 2008/2009, agus a bhfuil sárobair déanta aige in earnáil an ríomh-dearaidh ó shin.

Frank Allen
Príomhfheidhmeannach leis an Rail Procurement Agency, an comhlacht a bhfuil sé mar dhualgas air bonneagar iarnróid éadroim na hÉireann, an Metro san áireamh, a chur i gcrích.

Sadhbh Ní Hogáin
Innealtóir le EOS Future Design a dhéanann sainfheidhmiú ar chúrsaí pleanála inbhuanaithe, agus a bhfuil saineolas aici ar an réimse sin.

Ciarán Mac an Bhaird
Léachtóir le matamaitic in NUI Maigh Nuad a dhíríonn isteach ar na slite is éifeachtaí matamaitic a mhúineadh le nua-teicneolaíocht.

Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh
Ceoltóir agus amhránaí cáiliúil, a bhfuil ardmholadh faighte aici ní amháin dá ceol féin, ach leis sin an obair atá déanta aici le Danú agus daoine mar Julie Fowlis.

Mícheál Ó Droighneáin
Saineolaí teicneolaíochta agus fiontraí a chomh-bhunaigh Maithú, comhlacht teicneolaíochta soghluaiste a thóg an phríomhdhuais leis i gcomórtas Barr 50 gnó Gaeilge i 2010.

Tríona Nic Giolla Choille
Stiúrthóir leis an Galway Refugee Support Group, agus atá gníomhach i ngluaiseacht “Claiming Our Future”. D’eagraigh siad ócáid i mBaile Átha Cliath le déanaí ar fhreastal níos mó ná míle duine uirthi.

Tabharfaidh gach cainteoir cur i láthair gairid, fiche nóiméad ar a mhéad, ar an obair a bhfuil ar siúl aige – tugann sé sin deis don lucht féachana réimse leathan d’ábhair a bhlaiseadh, chomh maith le cuid mhaith díospóireachta ina dhiaidh! Ba sheans iontach é bualadh le daoine a bhfuil cúrsaí ag éirí go hiontach leo, agus a bhfuil an Ghaeilge mar pháirt lárnach dá shaol ag an am céanna.

Beidh fáilte agus fiche roimh gach éinne ag Imbolc – ní chosnaíonn gnáth-thicéad ach €25, agus ticéad do mhic léinn, seanóirí, agus daoine atá dífhostaithe €15. Sílimid féin gur tionól leithleach é Imbolc, a bhfuil sé mar aidhm aige a bheith ina “Inspioráid na Bliana” do Ghaeilgeoirí. Má tá eolas breise uait is féidir leat glaoch a chur orm ag 026-61165, nó freagair ar an r-phost seo.

Is féidir a thuilleadh eolais agus clárú a dhéanamh ar http://www.imbolc.ie, agus tá físeáin de na cainteanna go léir ón mbliain seo caite thuas ann
