Feis Laitiarain Cullen recently held a local commemoration for Feis Laitiarain on St Laitiarain’s Day 25-Jul-2020. The history of the Feis was presented along with folklore associated with St. Laitiarain. There was a tribute to Diarmuid O’Cadhla (Der Kiely) RIP and his grandfather Sean O’Cadhla who set up the first Feis plus stories, pipes, music and songs. The first Feis was held in Cullen 122 years ago, in 1898 and has been kept alive ever since. The Feis was particularly challenged during the troubles of 1918 when planes flew low to the ground overhead to try to disrupt the Feis, but the Feis goers held strong and continued with the Feis.
Local musicians, world class piper, singers and story tellers performing here carry the music nationwide and beyond with outstanding comments from people from here to New Zealand on social media outlets during the Covid-19 lockdown. They represent the local Comhaltas, Pipe Band and Scór GAA branches and have achieved several County, Provincial, All Ireland and World titles.
