WORLD DAY OF THE POOR
In 2016 Pope Francis established the World Day in his Apostolic Letter, Misericordia et Misera, to celebrate the end of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Today has been set aside as World Day for the Poor with the theme: “Stretch forth your hand to the poor.”
Age-old wisdom has proposed these words as a sacred rule to be followed in life. Today these words remain as timely as ever. They help us fix our gaze on what is essential and overcome the barriers of indifference. Poverty always appears in a variety of guises, and calls for attention to each particular situation. In all of these, we have an opportunity to encounter the Lord Jesus, who has revealed himself as present in the least of his brothers and sisters.

CHRISTMAS HAMPER APPEAL: It’s that time of year again when individual food hampers are made up for the homeless at Christmas. The following essential food items are required: Small jars of tea/coffee, jam, marmalade, cereal bars, chocolates, sweets, small packs of rice, cup-a-soup, pot-noodles, biscuits, crackers, easy to open tins of fruit, fish, meat, stews etc. Also required are hygiene items suitable for men, small items of clothing and cigarettes. Due to Covid19 restrictions please note the change in drop-off points: Millstreet – Car Park by Carnegie Hall on 11th December between 1.30 & 3.30p.m. Saturday 12th December between 11.30 & 1.00p.m. Dromagh Church Car Park on 11th December at 2.30p.m. Derrinagree Church Car Park on 12th December at 2.30p.m. This year items will be packed locally into hampers and taken to Cork on 18th December to be delivered out to the homeless. PARISH OFFICE: Our Parish Office continues to work behind closed doors as per current guidelines. Parishioners who wish to book masses, require Mass Cards or have any other query to please ring the office and arrangements for collection or posting will be made. Parishioners can continue to drop Parish dues and weekly envelopes into the post box at the Parish Office.
THANK YOU: My sincere thanks to our parishioners who continue to give financial support to the Parish. This is much appreciated during these challenging times. When visiting our Churches please continue to observe the guidelines given by our government and NPHET in relation to social distancing and hand hygiene.
