In yet another blow for small towns around Ireland, Bank of Ireland today unveiled plans to close 103 branches across Ireland, marking a major shrinkage of its network and another sign of the troubles facing the Irish banking industry. Amongst them are the Millstreet and Kanturk branches.
Bank of Ireland have said that under a new deal it will offer its services through 900 outlets of An Post in the Republic. The closures are due to start from September later this year.
The full story, and the full list of branches to close in available from the Irish Examiner. The branches to close in Cork are:
- Cork Institute of Technology
- Glanmire
- Bantry
- Cobh
- Dunmanway
- Kanturk
- Millstreet
- Mitchelstown
- Youghal
Extremely disappointed with todays announcement from Bank of Ireland, closure of branches in Kanturk and Millstreet an enormous blow – shocked that BOI have chosen to leave the Duhallow area completely, shows no respect for customers in the region with this decision @C103Cork pic.twitter.com/VJmGIxcCzi

Despite the fact I’ve never been able to get into the Millstreet bank due to lack of access, this is quite bad for those who don’t do tech or those who do things old school. https://t.co/OqlJEy3bMa
