The Certified Irish Angus Producer Group runs an annual competition for schools, where students do a project to raise awareness of the Angus beef brand. Michael O’Keeffe and Béibhinn Moynihan (Transition Year) have produced a three-minute video with information on Angus cattle, the sponsors (Kepak, ABP and Certified Irish Angus Producer Group) and how the brand can be promoted (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_JoiiNQPzM&t=9s). Michael and Béibhinn are now through to the semi-final where they will be interviewed on their work and research to date. Success here means they will receive five Angus calves to raise and finish.
Michael and Béibhinn both come from farms and study Agricultural Science in Millstreet Community School, and are developing their interest in the agricultural industry through this project
This exciting competition challenges students to rear five Angus calves over eighteen months while completing a research project. The initiative aims to promote the Certified Irish Angus brand while educating students about the care and attention required to produce quality beef for consumers.
Each group also benefits from the proceeds raised through the sale of the animals at the end of the competition. The overall winners also receive a bursary towards further education.
