Phil Cronin is a Millstreet man his wife Kitty is from Kildare
And amongst the Irish Community east of Melbourne they are a well known pair
Kind hearted and good people and surely nice to know
And a credit to that misty green Isle where the tree leaved shamrock grow.
.
Phil loves to talk of Millstreet Town and and the people he knew there
Some of the boys and girls he went to school with like he did went to live elsewhere
And some gone to the reaper the reaper who will claim us all one day
Time never waits for anyone a wise one once did say
.
Big Jerry Shea not feeling well a wild one in his prime
He is not the man he used to be now bowing to father time
A character he was of sorts and he had a heart of gold
The one who drunk and danced all night is feeling ill and old.
.
John Sing the pride of Millview Lane a friend of Kitty and Phil
He rests in peace forever more by Cashman’s Tanyard hill
Phil often talks of his old mate from Millstreet he may be gone
But in that Town by Clara hill memories of him live on.
.
And Morty Cronin rests in peace good memories of him abound
In Hennessy’s greyhound trialing track at Inchaleigh he often drove the electrical hare around
The track long gone from Inchaleigh and Millstreet a changed place
But there Morty Cronin’s will live on as a remembered face.
.
Dan, Jimmy and Willie Leary hale and hearty still and Anthony Manley alias Mister O
Is growing old in Millstreet Town a link to years ago
And Bridget King still living in Church Street of Phil’s a Hometown friend
And many Childhood friendships seem to last right till the very end.
.
Phil Cronin lives far from Duhallow but good memories of there with him remain
And he and Kitty say they will see Clara’s face again
He often talks of his old mates far north and far away
Some of them showing the wear of time and some with the dead lay.
