SAFEGUARDING SUNDAY: Message on behalf of the Diocesan Safeguarding Committee. During the summer of 2021 an audit of safeguarding practice in the diocese was carried out by the National Board for Safeguarding Children. The purpose of this audit was to assess safeguarding procedures as outlined in our policy. The Safeguarding Committee would like to acknowledge and thank all who took part. It was very evident that there is a strong safeguarding culture in our parishes and the high level of commitment by all involved was recognised. The full report will be published and available in the coming weeks. Anyone who would like to report a current or past safeguarding concern is advised to contact the Designated Liaison Person for the Diocese on 087 6362780.  People can also contact Towards Healing, an independent organisation offering confidential counselling for people who have experienced institutional, clerical or religious abuse. This is a free service funded by the Church. Website: http://www.towardshealing.ie/ Phone number: 1800303416. The Towards Healing helpline is open: Tuesday to Friday 9am – 5pm. Hearing impaired Text Line Number: 085 8022859.
