I don’t have the lotto results for you this morning. Sadly one of our esteemed members John Cronin passed away over the weekend and as a mark of respect the draw was not held on Sunday night. Instead it will be held at the Mal Passo Bar at nine to-night. Meanwhile the gentle John of 61 years of age will be laid to rest following the 1pm Requim Mass at our local church today.
Guards of honour drawn from the various local voluntary bodies that he worked with over the years, lined the route from Tarrants funeral home last evening, and will again to-day from the church to his last resting place, in St Mary’s cemetery, which is within close proximity of his family home at Priests Cross. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Breda, daughter Elaine, son Alan and all their extended family. Ar dheis De, go raibh a anam dilis.
The Community Council Meeting which was due to be held to-night has been deferred to Tuesday night of next week.
And a special notice to all our Bingo fans, please take note that Bingo on Thursday night of this week has been cancelled due the death of John Cronin. A note from the committee to say that John was a great favourite with all the players and will be sadly missed by them.
A very fond and special greeting goes out this morning to the well loved Maurice O Keeffe, Kiskeam who celebrated his 90th birthday at his annual music weekend which was held in his native Kiskeam at the weekend.
If music be the food of life, Maurice, then play on. Many happy returns .

A very pleasant coffee morning will be held, out of doors if the weather permits, on this Thursday September 10th, at the home of Noel and Eileen Collins, Clara Rd, Starting at 11 am, andit’s in aid of our church restoration Fund. So please, do drop in and give it your best support.
A delegation from our Tidy Towns Committee were invited to the results of the national Tidy towns competition which were held in Dublin last night. Where they learned that we came 2nd and Highly Commended in the North Cork region, in our category, gained 8 points ,and are now in the top ten, of North Cork. They will be invited to a meeting in the near future and receive their Award and a cheque. So well done to them and congratulations to all concerned.
Many congratulations also, to Ursula Pomeroy on winning the local Tidy Towns Award for the best Commercial Frontage at her popular Clara Inn. And to Paddy and Helen Sheahan, 35 Murphy’s Tce. Who won the Private Home Section for the second year running.
St Joseph’s Young Priests Society would like to say many thanks to all those who contributed to their recent church gate collection which amounted to €2,700. This money goes to the education of priests at home and abroad.

Every good wish to Cullen’s Roger Casey who will launch his book of poems, entitled “Old Dog, New Trick”, which will take place at Cullen Community Centre on this Friday night September 11th at 9pm . All proceeds will be shared between Cullen Pipe Band and Friends of Mallow Hospital.

Duhallow Region IFA and teagasc will host a seminar at the CYMS Hall Newmarket to-night, to discuss the serious financial crisis facing the farming community. It starts at 8 and all are welcome.
The Windfarm at Curragh was launched at an event was held at the Mills Bar/retaurant, Ballyvourney on Friday last. Buses were provided to ferry the people to the mountain top, where the honours were carried out by Mr. Simon Coveney. The event was attended by many dignitaries as well as the families on whose land the turbines were erected. The launch was followed by a gala banquet at a marquee which was specially erected on the grounds of the Mills . Among the invited guests were Sean Radley and Sean Murphy, they filmed the days events for LTV2.

Well done to Millstreet on capturing the Duhallow U12 Hurling Championship on a win over Kanturk in Meelin on Sunday last.
Millstreet incurred a defeat to Croke Rovers in the Duhallow Minor Hurling Championship final.
