Update on Recent Community Effort – Re The Wallis Arms Hotel

UPDATE ON RECENT COMMUNITY EFFORT RE: WALLIS ARMS HOTEL
Following on from the news that an offer of accommodation in respect of the Wallis Arms Hotel was made by the proprietor to IPPS (International Protection Procurement Services), an inspection took place by IPPS.  Prior to a decision on the signing of the contract, members of Millstreet community requested a meeting with the National Lead on Civic Engagement. Please see attached an extract of the presentation made at the meeting. As of today the Hotel is still for sale & no contract with IPPS has been signed. We expect a decision early next week.

  1. Over 10 people in Millstreet gaining money from the government for housing refugees. So I ask you why are you worried about the Wallis Arms. The hotel has been closed since early June. I will ask how many people went to the hotel when opened. The drink was bad and the food was worse. The place is a eye sore. Why don’t the people making the noise just buy the place and turn it into a proper hotel instead of looking for donations.

    1. Seán, I totally disagree with your description of our hotel, my experience with the hotel was the complete opposite. I entertain a lot of friends and relatives each year and without hesitation, The Wallace, was our choice, we didn’t need to travel further. Being involved in several groups and organising social occasions, our hotel was cosy, local, lovely food and staff. Each past owner brought their own ideas and changes, we were always thrilled, that we had a big venue to take people to and which was so close to home. Yes, it is up for sale but we need someone to buy it that understands, the hotel/tourism industry. Thankfully, regarding food, we have very good cafes, take aways, and supermarkets but we need a hotel too, which along with our lovely B+B’s would provide the much needed accommodation during busy community events and passing trade. Also the facade of our hotel is historic, not meant to look like a bland modern hotel, It’s present owner has tastefully brightened up our square, very much admired especially by Tidy Town judges.
