On Sunday 29th May, 112 cars left Darby O’Gills Hotel in Killarney and set off on a 90 mile tour of the mountains of Kerry. The aim was to raise money for the Oncology Unit in Tralee General Hospital. The run coincided with the first anniversary of Anne Casey Joy who passed away on 24th May 2010.
Organised by Anne’s brother Declan, along with her husband Billy, and a number of good friends, the route took the cars over the famous Molls gap, Ballaghbeama Pass, Ballaghasheen pass and continued to a rest halt at Rossbeigh Beach. Finally the convoy made its way to Beaufort via another famous landmark, Caragh Lake where the group sat down to a well earned meal.
The total amount raised on the day came to €3,605 and huge thanks goes out to everyone who helped the organising team, everyone who took part in the run and finally everyone who donated money to this very worthy cause. “We were really delighted with the number of people who supported the run and we hope that it will become an annual event” said Billy Joy who was overwhelmed with the variety of cars that turned out on the day.
Thanks to Declan for the article & to Jim McSweeney for the photos.
A brillant day and a massive and deserved turnout. Very well organised.
