MILLSTREET encountered little difficulty on overcoming Meelin in the Duhallow U21HC played in Millstreet on Saturday.
The home side’s overall superiority was reflected by the comfortable victory margin.
While Meelin put together a promising showing for much of the opening half, Millstreet hurled with a greater purpose to their game and finished strongly.
A keen contest emerged at the outset, Millstreet availing of the accuracy of Michael Vaughan and Mark Ellis to steer ahead. For a time, Meelin held their own from the input of Shane O’Riordan, Joseph O’Doherty and Brendan O’Sullivan. Points to Eamon Brosnan and O’Sullivan offered encouragement yet Meelin flattered to deceive.
Millstreet’s game carried a more menacing threat, Ellis unerring from 65s before corner forward Michael Murphy picked up on a long delivery to goal.
Ahead 1-5 to 0-2, Millstreet added to their tally from points to Ellis and Vaughan. Meelin attempted to stay in touch yet in their haste to recover, erratic shooting limited progress on the scoreboard.
All the initiative came from Millstreet, the dominance of Ellis, Dean Desmond, David McCaul and Darren Sheehan allowed the home side grow in stature. As Meelin’s challenge petered out, Millstreet powered forward and points from Cian Lawlor, Ellis and Donough Tarrant polished off a convincing performance.
