This talk will explore several consequences of the collapse of the Gaelic order in the seventeenth century, with particular reference to the banning of Ireland’s laws and legal system. It will also highlight the efforts of such people as Charles O’Conor of Balanagare, Eugene O’Curry and John O’Donovan, whose work on the translation of ancient Irish manuscripts kept the Gaelic flame alive and ultimately led to the publishing of the Ancient Laws and Institutes of Ireland in the nineteenth century. Patricia Herron is currently completing her PhD study at the University of Limerick on the topic of Ireland’s Brehon Laws.

The bus will leave Banteer at 20.45 via its reciprocal route to MIllstreet & Cullen.
Please note:
Tickets for the bus tour are €20 and need to be booked and paid for before August 1st, Non payment by that date will render the provisional booking cancelled and the seat will be reallocated so early booking and payment is requested (cash or persoanl cheques made payable to Feile Duthalla only please). The bus fee covers the bus ride, lectures, afternoon tea at Longueville and the music session in Banteer)
The barbeque on saturday will cost €5 per person and covers the barbeque food, salads and the music session. Tickets are on sale now and admission is by ticket only. Please order and pay for your tickets early so as to assist the organisation (logistics foodwise etc.,) for the event which will be held indoors if the weather is against us…….
The cost for the weekend is €25 which will cover all events both free and ticketed and represents great value. As our budget is very low this year it is requested that payment be made as soon as possible by those wishing to participate in the weekends programme. Your anticipated co-operation and understanding in this matter is much appreciated and will help in the smooth running of all events (it will allow us to provide tea, coffee snack etc.lf, for free if everyone coughs up the asked €25.
