Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this damp but mild Tuesday morning.

Well our Millstreet Summer Horse Show is over and we can clock up yet
another outstanding event in the history of the renowned Green Glens
Complex. There was no mention of the Celtic Tiger, no shortage of entries
and even no shortage of fine weather. On opening day there was a massive
8,000 entries on the books with many more re-entering during the week.

Our Show came fast on the heels of the Dublin Show and the comparisons were
staggering. Stabling alone here was little more than half the cost while
parking of horse boxes which cost €1800 in Dublin were free of charge
here, the list goes on. And prize money just couldn’t be compared. One
man told me he won a competition in Dublin for which he got €150 , a
similar one here was â, €6,000.   Admission was free throughout the five
days and people and families came and enjoyed it all to the full. As well
as the Cian O Connors and Francis Connors and other famous riders who
continue to grace our show.

I have to make reference to the ponies and riders of the Glenaire Stables
from Mallow. They performed at various times indoors to the strains of the
music of Johann Struass, as well music with a Spanish flavour. Both young
and old were captivated by their show and their gentle movements were in
sharp contract to the  pressure that went on outside.

As a rising tide rises all craft, Millstreet was alive to all at the Summer
Horse Show with all businesses and services benefitting from it. And once
again well done to the Duggan family.

Next Horse event here will be the Pony Show which will be held on October
28, 29, & 30th.

I want to say a very Happy 21st. Birthday to the Hooper Twins,

Jamie and Conor , and  also  to Gary Sherlock, and wish them every success
in the years ahead.

Good luck also to the hundreds of young people who will get the their
Leaving Cert Results to-morrow. We hope the successful ones get the points
they need and that the not-too-successful will get the parental and peer
support to see them through.

A Flag Day was held  on Friday last in aid of the Irish Dogs for the
Disabled and realised €1,325 . Many thanks to all who supported it.

A One-Day Walking Festival will be held in Millstreet on Saturday September
24th.

The Drive goes on to keep Millstreet clean and tidy. Please help the cause
by not throwing litter around. The judging for the Best Frontage both
private & commercial goes on, and the results will be made known at the end
of the month.  So do please keep up the good work.

Ballet Dancing Classes start at the GAA Hall in September. They will also be
available in Kanturk, Boherbue, Newmarket and Mallow.

The LTV2 Crew are preparing to start a new season. People are asked to get
in touch with members if they had problems with reception in the past. Also
people are invited to take a more active role in the running of the
service, perhaps by way of submitting clips of events for transmission etc.
Local Television is very well liked by those who receive during the long
winter months and the more varied and broad based it is the better. So
please help us, in the best way you can.

Our local Macra Club held a very Successful pitch .and  Putt tournament
at the weekend and seven teams took part. This weekend on Sunday August 21
they will help out at the Field Day in Macroom. Comprising of a wide list
of events. Please take note that they welcome new members.

Heritage week runs from  August 21st to 28 .There is a long list of places
and events for you to choose from. Look out for Posters in your area or

Millstreet defeated Dromtariffe in the Duhallow Junior B Football League.
Millstreet incurred defeat to Kanturk the North Cork U14 Football
Championship Final.

Looking ahead, Millstreet are scheduled to play Mallow in the North Cork
Minor A Football Championship in Castlemagner on Monday at 7pm.
Here are the results of this weeks parish lotto draw which was held at
Tarrants Bar on Sunday night .Numbers drawn were 7. 23, 27, 29 and the
Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Den. Corkery c/o Corkerys Bar the
seller was Corkerys Bar and they got  € sellers prize, €50 went to
Michelle Smyth, Cloghoulamore. €20 to Danny Granada, c/o The Clara Inn.
