We have a new President, and for a while we could not be blamed for thinking it was our own Sean Radley. He was seen on our screens on inaugural day almost as often as Mr. Higgings himself, and I am sure he is dying to tell us all about it.
A million congratulations to our brilliant camogie team on winning the Junior Shield on Saturday, beating Mitchelstown by two points in the final. Well done indeed to them and to all associated with them.
Congrats also to the members of the transition year students on qualifying in six categories of the young scientists awards .
And it’s that time of year again when our Community School Transition year students put on their annual Play. This time it is “It Runs in the Family” A hilarious comedy by Ray Cooney. It’s on at the Community School Tuesday to Thursday November 22, 23, 24th starting at 8 sharp. Admission, €8 and €5. A Show not to be missed.
IRD Duhallow will hold their Annual Craft Fair at the James O’Keeffe Institute on the weekend of November 26/27th from 12 noon to 6 each day.
Very large crowds converged on Millstreet at the weekend for the mighty Self-Build Exhibition. Hundreds of business people, from many far away places displayed their wares in a mad effort to stave off the downturn in the economy. The beautiful restaurant was up are running all three days where footsore people enjoyed anything from scrumptious dinners to tasty snacks. As always events at the Green Glens are a wonderful boost to our local economy. And help in no small way to lift sagging dreams & hopes.
A boxing event is planned for there at a date yet to be decided. So watch out for that.
Many thanks to the members of our Clergy for saying prayers at all of our local cemeteries on Sunday. Large crowds attended and placed blessed candles on the graves of their loved ones.
Thanks to our Co. Council the turning point on St Mary’s Cemetery has been repaired and extended. A very welcome development.

Millstreet Gramophone Circle Meeting at the Canon O Donovan Centre Friday night November 18th starting at 8.15 and all are welcome, presenter Donal Cowman.
Hard to believe but Christmas is a beckoning. Only five weeks to go now I think. Our Town Development group want to remind you once again to please place your order for that little Christmas tree that they want you to place on your house to brighten up the Festive Season.
And they are offering a prize of €100 for the best private house front and the same for a business place. There’s a shopping promotion in the town this week, From November 17th to 26th. All shoppers will be in for a draw for €1500, worth of vouchers.
And our local branch of St Vincent de Paul want to remind you of their fundraising cake sale which they will hold at the Parish Centre this Saturday night November 18th after the 6.30 vigil Mass. They need bringers and buyers, and are asking people who are bringing items to please have them on disposable plates and well wrapped and ready for sale. Buns should be packed in handy numbers for quick sale.
Members will be there from 3-6pm to receive them and please give generously to this worthy cause.
The monthly meeting of the Community Council was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday night last. Some of the items up for discussion were plans to celebrate the centenary of our Carnegie Hall and the replacement of the Cross at the top of Clara Mountain. Any records or pictures of the Carnegie Hall from the past would be very welcome.
This Thursday night November 17th, marks the first night of our community singing Club. Some call it a choir, I call it a fun singing session, open to both men and women, of all ages. A sort of a return of “Round the Fire” and all under the capable hands of the well-known singer/musician, Marie Twomey. It starts at the Youth Club at 7.30 this Thursday night. Admission €5. Our young Macra Club held a gala evening at the Pub in Carriganima recently, They are going from strength to strength and always looking for new members.
Our Knitting club is on twice every Tuesday. From 10.30 to 12.30 am at the Library and from 7-9 pm at the Adult Learning Centre Main St.
Look up at enjoyable pastimes and hobbies that are available around the place. There is something for everyone.

Out at the pub in Carriganima this Sunday November20th there is a kiddies Day, comprising of Kids Disco etc and the next trad night at that venue will be Tuesday November 29th Special Guest Catriona O Donovan of “LoveMe when I’m Old” fame.

Millstreet GAA hosted a prize giving at a pleasant function hosted in the
Wallis Arms Hotel last Friday night. Teams received medals for hurling and
football triumphs. Individual awards were presented to Club Person of the
Year Mick O’Callaghan, Player of the Year Mark Ellis, Niall Kelleher was
acknowledged for managing the Cork Junior Football team to All Ireland
glory and the newly inaugurated Tadgh Moynihan Memorial Trophy for Young
Player of the Year was presented to Michael Vaughan.
