  1. Happy birthday Sean. I really enjoyed watching the show and hearing Brendie talk about the Bridie Gallagher show at the Star. I was at that dance too. Yourself and Brendie are the only two I recognise on the TV,but then I realize that I left Millstreet more than fifty years ago.
    Happy New Year to all.

    1. Hi Pat & All … Delighted you are enjoying our LTV2 programmes. I shall indicate to Brendan Murphy that his memories of the Star Ballroom and Bridie Gallagher are appreciated on an international basis! And thank you for the birthday greetings. I cannot believe how fast a year passes! Take good care.

  2. Hi Sean, We live abroad and my parents are elderly they would love to see your show. Is it possible to download this video onto a DVD would you have any idea?

    1. Hi Julie …. So glad you are receiving our LTV2 programmes where you live abroad. Perhaps it may be possible to download our programmes from the website. I guess that it would depend on what specific software might be on one’s computer. Here in Ireland we have made certain programmes available on DVD when requested.

  3. Ann Shelton whom Brendan Murphy refers to did an Irish tour in 1958.She had a massive hit “Lay down your arms and surrender to mtne”.Teddy boys from various parts of England followed her around Ireland. They came to Milstreet and several people were stung when they puschased dud admission tickets from these outside the Star. Thanks all involved in the production of LTV2 productions.

    1. Shelton, Anne - Lay Down Your Arms CD Cover Art
Richard, that’s a very interesting story about the tickets.
We don’t get to hear much of that type of music nowadays on the radio. For those that would like to hear Ann Shelton singing “Lay down your arms”, someone has uploaded it to youTube being played on a gramophone. Click the link below to see it

    2. Thanks a million Richard for such interesting information. We shall make special reference to this on our LTV2 programme this week (Prog. 198). I had not realised that such a famous star as Ann Shelton actually appeared at the “Star” Ballroom in Millstreet. Many thanks to our colleague, Michael (Cashman) for accessing lots of Ann Shelton songs from YouTube. Delighted you are logging into our LTV2 programmes from where you live. Happy viewing!

  4. You may be interested also that Eddie Calvert “the man with the golden trumpet”came to the Star Ballroom in 1957. “O Mein Papa” [listen] was a massive hit for him. Brian Poole and the Trembloes came to the Star in 1965.I saw them doing a brilliant show. I saw the posters for Ann Shelton and Eddie Calvert appearing in the Star in Cullen Post Office. I used to listen to Radio Luxembourg and knew who was in the Top 20 at the time.

  5. Hi Sean,

We found an original poster of Anne Sheltons tour for the Star Ballroom in Millstreet in perfect condition in Mattie’s house.
Let me know if you would like this for the Museum?
    Regards
    Martha

    1. Martha …. Thanks a million for offering such a wonderfully historic Poster to Millstreet Museum. We would greatly appreciate such a treasure as Posters evoke such great memories. To my knowledge regarding promoting Anne Shelton’s Tour – it was in fact Michael Murphy (your Granduncle) of Minor Row who was responsible for the visit of Anne Shelton to Millstreet’s Star Ballroom those decades ago. Anne was a hugely popular singer worldwide but especially in Ireland.
