On behalf of our community this morning, I want to convey our heartiest congratulations to our own Seán Radley on being shortlisted down to the last 30 in the All Ireland Volunteering Awards, sponsored by Specsavers. He is to travel to Dublin on Thursday for the final, which will be held at the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham. And we wish him the very best of Millstreet luck. Michael and Kathy O’Connor, who nominated him in the first pace, will go along with him on the day.

The Fancy Dress Ball which was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday Night in aid of Cystic Fibrosis was a wonderful success. The house was packed and the array of ensembles was vast and varied, and hilariously funny. The winner again this year being Con-the-Lake Dennehy, with his impression of Fianna Fail. The Auction enjoyed brisk sale and generous prices. And the night was danced away to the music of Connie and Tom. With Mad Dave as DJ. All in all a wonderful show of support for a very worthy cause.Cystic Fibrosis. Look up our website for all the pictures.

Fundraising Concert in aid of our Church Restoration Fund in our Parish Church on November 29th.

And staying with worthy causes. A fund raising concert will be held at Drishane Castle on Friday December. 4th. This is in aid of Baby Jacob. The little tot who was born to a Polish family, without any eyes. He will never see but still needs a lot of on-going treatment . The full story is on our website. The good news is that all the tickets are sold out for December 4th, So a matinee will be held at the same venue on Sunday December 6th. And tickets for that are now on sale and can be bought at the Green Glens. 029 70800.

This is the month of the Holy Souls and prayers were said at all our cemetries on Sunday Large crowds of people, as well as our priests, braved the  cold,lashing  rain for the occasion.

Masses will be said during the coming weeks for all those who are on the November list.

Masses this week are in the Church at 7.30pm. No morning Masses.

The AGM of the Millstreet and Distict Housing Association will be held at the Canon O Donovan Centre on Tuesday November 10th at 7.30 pm.

Our Millstreet Development Group are going from strength to stremgth, and up the 40 people attended  last week’s meeting., some on an advisery basis, others willing to row in behind new developments. Others just there to see what they are all about. The main thing is of course that people are awake to the need  of seeking new ways into the future by clubbing together. They meet every Monday night at the Wallis Arms Hotel.at 9.

Popular Kanturk musician Tim Brown is trying to make Feile Duhallow a reality in 2010, but he needs help. Those interested please log on to his Website at info@ tbrown .net.

A note from IRD Duhallow to say that they are hosting a  public information seminar, entitled “Coping with Bullying” ,at the James O Keeffe Institute on Thursday November 19th. at 8. Contact Helen O Sullivan at 02960633 for more details.

Weekly story-telling for children every Saturday at 11 for one hour.

And there’s also the Children’s Book Club. Breda will tell you all about it.

There’s a big dance coming up at the Gleneagle Hotel on Monday November 30th.Its organised by the Knocknagree Cancer Committee, in aid of Mary Mount Hospice and the Kerry Cancer Support Group. Tickets are on sale over a wide area. Mary FitzGerald being the agent in the Millstreet Area. They will have a monster draw on the night with up to 20 prizes to be won. These tickets are €2 each And tickets for the dance €10. There is a vast number of musicians playing on the night, all providing their services fee of charge. Please give it your full support.

Christmas Festivities at the Country Park are worth checking out. For details contact them at 02970810.

A special function was held at Cloghoula School on Monday afternoon at which teachers parents and children bade farewell to Fr. Gerard O Leary who was a member of their School Board for the past 7 years. He received many presentations and many good wishes in his new ministry in Killarney.
