Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this fine but showery Tuesday morning, the last one in June.

Please be reminded once again that we have two defibrillators in the town for public use, They are located at the door of the Youth Centre and at the Door of our Garda Barracks.

At the recent meeting of the Community Council it was decided to hold refresher courses for people who have done defibrillator courses already. New comers are also needed and they can attend the same courses, which will begin in September. Please send you name and details to me at 086 316 32 85. Or to any Community Council Member.

The fine weather at the weekend was well appreciated for the annual Mass at St. John’s Well on Friday night and again for the Family fun day at Aubane on Sunday afternoon and also the lovely Country Park. So the people up there must be well in with  him who makes the sunshine.

I want to wish a very Happy Birthday this morning to the lovely Peg  O Sullivan, of Peg’s Shop away down in Adrigole in West Cork, who had her  96th  birthday during the week and still serves the customers and has the chat with them. Many Happy returns Peg.

 

And many thanks to composer supreme Francie Duggan for all his great poems on the  net about our people and, recently about my own family members in Cloghoula.

 

End of term Mass was held at Cloghoula School this morning and there was a large attendance. Many other schools will be closing around this time and I want to wish the children and their teachers a happy and well deserved break.

 

The turf machine is still waiting for the weather to improve before  starting work Gneeves bog.

 

I hope you’re looking up your old photographs. They want them for the  Millstreet Calendar, to launch our efforts in the National Gathering 2013. Give your pictures to any member of the Development Group. Put them in an envelope and include your name and address. Again contact me if you want to know more.

A notice here to say that  IRD Duhallow South Eastern Elections will be held at the Glen Theatre to-morrow Wednesday evening at 8pm.

The program will also include details of funding that is available to community groups. For more details give Helen O Sullivan a ring at 60633.

 

Our Tidy Towns Committee are keeping up the pressure to keep our town & approach  roads clean and litter free. To-day Our Lady’s Grotto on the Macroom Road will be power washed and we are appealing for help to get it painted right away. Give me a ring if you’d like to be part of the job.

Meantime the Tidy Towns Committee meet every Monday night in the Town Square at 7, join the if you’d like to help. They provide all the necessary equipment, just bring yourself.

 

Cullen’s Young at Heart evening out, comprising of dinner, followed by the Mike Denver show at the Gleneagle Hotel,  is on July 18th. Names must be in by Wednesday July 11th.

Wild Wings Weekend at the Country Park this Weekend June 30th July 1st . When all the birds that live in the Park will be identified. All the details by ringing Lorna 029 70810.

 

Our wonderful Macra Club are alive and well and have great plans for the future. They welcome new members, both, boys and girls from the age of 18 to 35, and to raise some funds they are holding a Race night & BBQ at Corkery’s Bar on  Saturday August 18th so keep that date free.

 

Every good wish to our gallant Strings Group, comprising of a number  our Community School Students, who put on such a wonderful night of entertainment at Drishane Castle recently. They are off to Co. Derry to-day to take part in the

North Atlantic Fiddle Convention, and I know that they will do us proud.

Millstreet overcame St. Peters to capture the North Cork U13 Football League.

 

In the Co. U21 A Football Championship, Millstreet drew with Bantry Blues and a replay is expected this weekend.

 

Last evening, Millstreet defeated   Meelin in the Singleton Cup semi final replay.

 

Next weekend, Millstreet V Newmarket in the opening round of the Junior A Hurling Championship  on a date to be confirmed.

 

And many congratulations to the pupils of our Presentation Convent School on winning the Sports Day Cup against stiff opposition in the Town Park yesterday.

 

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Sunday night . Numbers drawn were 2, 21, 25, 30 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Teresa Carroll, Kanturk, The Seller was Tom Carroll and he got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Margaret Ann O Connell, Ballymahon. €20 each to Sarah Dennehy, Ballydaly, Nuala Taylor, Liscahane. Jackpot for next week in €9, 000 the draw at Tarrants Bar on Sunday night.
