 Dia is Mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1125 from Millstreet.Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very, best on this rather dull but mild Tuesday morning.

 

The beautifying of our town goes on and this week all eyes are on the Gable- end- wall at Mill Lane, in the town centre, where a beautiful mural has been painted, depicting the old mill race, which was part and parcel of our every-day lives in the past. Well done to all associated with it. Especially the artist himself Neil O’Dwyer for Co.Tipperary.

Please keep up the anti litter drive. Every Monday evening a dedicated group work very hard to make Millstreet a prize-winning town. Come out and help.

 

There was lots of joy at the Social Club in Aubane on Saturday night when Seamus Buckley celebrated his 50th birthday. But it was a celebration with a difference. Seamus used the occasion the raise funds for a past pupil on his by the name of Pat McMahon a native of Meelin. Pat a trained nurse was so overwhelmed by the poverty that he saw in Calcutta that he forged ahead and with another man they opened a hospital there. Now they are doing wonderful work to aid the poor and sick. At Saturdays night’s party well in excess of €3,000 was raised, Pat says a child’s eyesight can be saved for a mere ten cents ,almost unbelievable. So well done to Seamus Buckley on his 50th Birthday.

The centenary of celebrations of Aubane  school will be held on August 17-20th. They are asking for any old pictures etc.

All lovers of the art of writing are welcome at the James O Keeffe Institute to-night for a gathering of  those who like to put pen to paper. Special guests will include the well known Vincent O Donnell, Alice Taylor, Fr. Martin McCormac, Mary O Sullivan and Fidelma O Sullivan.etc. Starts at 7.30. light refreshments will be served and it promises to be great.

 

This Friday night July 27th is Kareoke Night at the Wallis Arms Hotel. Organised by our Town Development Group it will be a battle between all the local businesses, each putting up a singer to represent them. All are invited to take part. Ask any member of the Group for more details. But above all, be there.

 

Out at the Briery Gap in Macroom on Tuesday night of next week, July 31st it will be a night of Prayer and healing in honour of Padre Pio. 91 year old Donal Enright will attend and also D D O Mahony who is a visionary of Padre Pio at San Giovani. Admission is free and it starts at 8 and all are welcome.

A book on the renowned MoonLighter known as the BARD, by Barry Keane, published by the Aubane Historical Society,  will be launched at our Library on Saturday August 18th.  Copies are expected to be on sale at Wordsworth in the near future.

 

The organisers of the Cullen Vintage and threshing day, met with great success again on Sunday last and they would like to say many thanks to all those who helped in any way with their great annual fundraiser in aid of their special needs association.

 

Bingo in Banteer to-night, €8,650 in prize money.

 

Quiz in the Pub in Carriginma this Friday night, July 27th.and their Monthly traditional night is on Tuesday night of next week. Plans for their Summer fest. Aug11/12 are in the pipeline.

 

Sponsored 5 km Walk with a difference in Kilcorney on Sunday July 5th when   Nellie Healy will walk backwards for half of the way. All in aid of Marymount Hospice.

 

Fundraising Dance at Darby o Gills on Bank Holiday Monday August 6th, in aid ofMillstreetHospital and St Mary of the Angels Beaufort. A vast line up of musicians will attend.

 

Patricia Guerin would like to say thanks to all those who supported her recent Coffee morning which enabled her to raise €1,175 for the Church restoration Fund and Cope in Mallow.

Our Juvenile GAA Club wants  to thank all those who supported their recent Church Gate Collection.

 

Eucharistic Adoration in our Church every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.30 am to 10.30 pm. In Cullen on Thursdays at the same times and in Ballydaly on Fridays from 5 until 9 pm.

Please be reminded that there in a box at the end of the church with pieces of paper, where people can write their requests, this is placed in the church of Adoration and will be included in the prayers of all who go there.

 

Our beautiful Town Park is open every day and is a hive of activity for people of all ages. A book on it’s history has been compiled and will make very interesting reading when it comes out.

The Holy Tubrid Well continues to attract  a continuous  flow of people. The Macroom Faith and Light group held their annual Mass there on Saturday last and had music and  refreshments at the GAA Hall afterwards.

Millstreet overcame Tullylease in the Duhallow Junior A Hurling Championship in Meelin last Sunday.

On this Saturday, Millstreet host the Duhallow Junior A Football Championship meeting of Lyre and Castlemagner with an 8pm throw in.

 

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the MalPasso Bar on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were, 2, 14, 25, 29 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Eileen Hickey, Macroom , the seller was Patsy Mac and he got €50 sellers prize. €50 went to Canon John FitzGerald, the Presbetry.
