Regional Report 1146 – 18th December 2012

 

Good morning listeners and welcome to Millstreet News Report number 1146.  This is Maireád Daly filling in for Eily Buckley today.

Many of the shops in Millstreet will be open for business this Sunday 23rd December, your custom will be greatly appreciated as we all should try to shop local and support our traders.

Millstreet Community Council would like to thank all those who contributed to their recent Church gate collection. All monies collected will be distributed for local projects.

Millstreet St Vincent d Paul wishes to sincerely thank all who contributed so generously to their annual collection. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Cullen and District Special Needs Association wish to thank all who contributed to the success of their recent Christmas Mass and party.

Cloghoula National School will celebrate Mass and present its Nativity play on Thursday 20th December at twelve noon in the school.  All are welcome.

Duhallow Choral Society will give a Christmas Carol recital in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kanturk on Sunday 23rd December at 7 p.m. Tickets available  at the door or from choir members.

We have a wealth of local new books for sale at Wordsworth, The Bard, The Aubane Centenary Book,  CD’s  and lots more. Go in and have a browse and you will be surprised to see what lovely gifts are on offer.

Speaking of books, another book called “Down the Lawn”, a history of Millstreet Town Park will be launched at Corkery’s bar on this Friday 21st December between 7p.m. and 8p.m. This is a commemorative book on the 50th anniversary of the Town Park. Your support would be greatly appreciated. The local St Vincent d Paul will also be benefitting. All welcome.

Don’t forget the 5th Annual Charity swim at the Boeing in the Blackwater River due to be held on New Year’s day at 12.30p.m. sharp. All sponsorship is going to the Canon O’Donovan Centre.   Sponsorship cards and details are available from Eileen Murphy on 086 8654341. Millstreet Vigil: 10.30p.m.
Christmas Day: 8.30a.m. and 11.30a.m.

Ballydaly: 9a.m.

Cullen Vigil: 8p.m.
Christmas Day: 10.15a.m.

Confessions on Saturday 12.30p.m.- 1p.m

Here are the results of this week’s Parish lotto draw and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Cathal Sugrue, Banteer and the seller was Patsy Mac and he gets €50 sellers prize. Second prize of €50 went to Paul Dawson, Dooneen. €20 went to each of the following Crissy Kelleher, Aubane, Joan and Patricial Creedon, Cloghoula, Noreen Murphy, c/o Post  Office, Bina O’Mahony, Knocknagree, Sandra Dineen, Kocknalammon, June Pomeroy, Clara, Paddy Roche Drishane Road, Marie Kelleher, Pound Hill. Next week’s draw will be at the Malpasso Bar and the jackpot will be € 5800.

Food parcels for the Homeless at Christmas can be dropped of at O’Regan’s Mills before Friday the 21st December. Essential foods – for example Tea, Coffee- small jars, Sugar, Rice, Cereal, Spaghetti, Soup, Biscuits, Tinned –Meat’s ,Stew’s, Cornbeef, Chicken, etc.Toiletries – Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Shampoo, and Shower gel,  Always needed  –  Socks, scarf’s or gloves  or good quality warm jumpers

Any Volunteer’s  to travel to Cork for the sorting out of foods will be kindly appreciated.

Margaret Crean will collect on Thursday 20th   and take items to Cork on Friday 21st December.

Volunteer pupils from secondary schools and adults will make out food parcels for the many homeless, and families in need in Cork city, young and old. Later that night the food parcels will be handed out to the needy by volunteer known to these people.
