Radical shake-up for Cork Garda

The Examiner reports today on the impending changes to the way the Gardaí do business in Cork County – below are a few points of note:

  • “By April, it is expected the Cobh and Kanturk Garda districts will cease to exist. Garda stations in the Kanturk district such as Boherbue, Ballydesmond, Rathmore, and Millstreet will come under the control of Macroom.”
  • “From the end of this month all calls from North and East Cork will be transferred to the city control centre and by the end of next month it will also deal with calls from West Cork.”
  • “A new computerised system is to be launched by gardaí in Cork as part of a radical shake-up of the force in the city and county which, it is claimed, will improve their service to the public.”
