Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to news report 1152 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this mild but very wet Tuesday morning. Baoichas le Dia the High winds and heavy rains over the weekend left very little visible damage to  the buildings and trees in our area, and even our roads stood up well to the torrential rains.

Our State of the Art E Centre was officially opened in the Town Square, opposite the Wallis Arms hotel on Wednesday January 23rd The honours being done  the Lady Mayor of Cork County Barbara  Murray.  The pleasant function was also  attended by Aine Collins TD as well as many members of  Millstreet Community Council, Cork Co Council and members of our  vibrant Development Group. LTV2 crew were there and recorded the important event for future viewing.

The Centre has a lot to offer all those who need a base to launch a career, host a course, or a meeting and so on.

And to set the ball rolling an event entitled “Be confident”, a discussion group will meet there to-morrow Wednesday morning from 11to12noon.

Bride & Groom Fair at the Green Glens of February.9/10th

It’s delightful to see the Monster Mac returning again this year. It will be centred at the CountryPark on April 27th.

The organisers were overjoyed at the amount of local co-operation and help that they received last time. And they are now inviting people to come and help again, and earn up to €800 for their  favourite  cause. All details are on the website so contact them right away.

 

And still with Athletics, 29yr old Brendan O Sullivan , son of Tom and Margaret, Rathduane is gone to South Korea where he will represent Ireland at the special Olympics in the Floor Ball contest. And we wish him the best of Good luck.

 

The Community School Play “Funny Money”, drew great crowds  or their three nights showing. It was a wonderful show, and well done to all involved.

 

The  26th  annual Panto, continues in Rathmore,  this week on Wednesday, Thursday ,& Saturday ,and again on Sunday Feb 3rd.     064 77 585 26.

Proceeds this year go to Kerry Parents & Friends for their new unit in Rathmore. So please support it well.

 

In spite of wind and weather 88 people attended the Weigh-In  in Cullen last night. More of the same next week.

 

Still with Cullen please take note that due to a local bereavement the GAA Social which was to be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel this weekend has been deferred to another date.

 

Out in Ballydaly ,their Social Group will meet in the Hall to-morrow Wednesday Night to discuss forthcoming events for the year ahead.

 

There is a great response for the First Aid course that’s coming up in Carriganima. It will run over two weeks, on Wednesday February 13th  and 20th  If you’d like to do the course, give Seanie a ring at 087 2600640

 

The AGM of our Juvenile GAA which was deferred last week will be held at the GAA Hall to- night at 8.

It’s very important that all parents attend.

 

The AGM of our Credit Union will be held on this Thursday night starting at 8.15.

 

The AGM of the Community Council will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on TuesdayFeb.12th.

 

Regular meetings are already being held to organise this year’s  St Patrick’s Day Parade. Contact Noel Buckley if you’d like to help.

 

And as we approach the Feast Day of our patron Saints at the weekend, St Bridgets Cross-making  class will be held at our local Library this Thursday Jan 31st from 3 to 4pm.

John Greene, who presents the programme  called ‘Where The Road Takes Me’,  will begin a three part series on the Cork-Kerry Butter Road beginning on Sunday 3 February. At 7.

Well done to both the St. John’s and Millstreet teams on their success in the Duhallow Senior Scor Finals hosted in Kanturk last Friday night. St. Johns enjoyed four outright wins with one for Millstreet.

 

Eucharistic Adoration in all three churches during the week. Confessions in Millstreet on Saturdays from 12.30 to 1pm.

 

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the Wallis Arms on Sunday night Numbers drawn were 8, 15, 22, 23. and the Jackpot was not won.
