The grand finale of our 28th Annual Weigh is on Monday Mar. 25th, when a large number of participants will eagerly await the announcement of the winners in the different categories.
We appeal to all who took sponsorship cards to return them on or before March 25th when trophies, again generously sponsored by Robert Guerin, Ballydaly, will be presented to winners: – 1st , 2nd , 3rd to both ladies and gents for weight loss and 1st , 2nd , 3rd for Sponsorship collected.
A total of 110 cards were issued, making it a very busy 10 nights for Dr. Pat Casey who spoke to each person individually and discussed a suitable weight loss over the ten weeks. Máire Heffernan expertly looked after and guided the popular aerobic classes and whose contribution to the success of the Weigh-in is immense.
Our talented musicians never let us down, we know we can always depend on Katie Kelleher, Marie Casey, Finbar Murphy, Michael Fleming.
Twenty eight years of hosting the weigh in and fundraising is indeed phenomenal and reflects well on both the community spirit and the individuals involved. Despite the challenges people are facing in the current economic environment, their commitment and support is as strong as ever. The Association is now 34 years and in that period a lot of funds have been collected and distributed to help the various groups looking after our special friends, many of whom are in residential accommodation requiring full time care, many others attend special school and workshops on a five day Week Residential Basis, or in some cases on a daily basis. That support is crucial more than ever due to current cutbacks in funding and of the difficulty in accessing state grants.
Many thanks to all our wonderful participants, sponsors and all who contributed in any way to the success of this annual event, also to the Community Centre, Photographers, the Examiner, The Corkman, Clara News, LTV Millstreet, and C 103.
