Cullen Pipe Band held its annual general meeting on Sunday, September 29th at the band hall in Cullen.
Chairman Alan Moriarty reflected on the band’s continued growth and success during the year, which included participation at over thirty local and national events. Highlights included playing for President Michal D Higgins at his visit to Carrignavar, Sean Moylan Commemoration in Kiskeam, Christmas Lights in Killarney, St. Partick’s Day parades in Cullen, Rathmore, Tralee, Killarney and Millstreet, Cullen Feis and Threshing and The Gathering events in Boherbue and Ballydesmond. The band also played at the Limerick International Bands Parade and Feile na mBealtaine in Dingle.
Secretary Collette O’Connor commented that the band’s continued development of its players to a very high standard resulted in top awards by individual members in the Munster Solos, Leinster Solos, All Ireland Solos and band success at the All Irelands, Munster Championships along with participation in several contests in Northern Ireland. Collette thanked all the instructors of the band many who travel long distances to give of their time voluntarily to teach players at all levels. As a result, it is no wonder that the band attracts over fifty players, some from all over Munster along with strong concentration of young members from the local region.
Elected officers for the coming year include President Sean Hickey, Piper Major Con Houlihan, Chairman Alan Moriarty, Vice Chairman Patrick Flemming, Treasurer Geraldine Houihan, Secretary/PRO Collette O’Connor.
The band would like to thank the community for its continued support as reflected in the recent church gate collection and to the Arts Council and Music Network.
