Inclement weather proved a real spoilsport of our Big moment of turning on the Christmas Lights on Friday evening.
A fine program of School children singers as well as our Community singing group was planned, but the high winds and heavy rains soon put a stop to it.
However a great time was still had by all in Aubane, with their Christmas Mass and party. And this was followed by the turning on of the Lights at the Pub in Carriganima. The Community singers attended and their entertainment was very well received.
The race goes on to be ready for Christmas. School plays are the order of the day as they prepare to close for the Holidays. Tomorrow Wednesday Cloghoula School are holding their Annual Christmas Mass and play starting at 11am.
And fundraisers are also being held in aid of various needs. The Annual collection of Food for the needy and homeless in Cork is being taken in by Hannelie at O’Regans Mill or by Tina Enright in at the Educare Centre in Boherbue.
They need all sorts of dried foods. Tea, small jars of Coffee, beans, peas, tinned meats and fish. Packets of soup.Rice, pasta The list goes on, Please support this worthy cause.
A note from Maire Ní Cronín to say that their gala night at the Abbey Hotel raised €5,000 in aid of the Cork/Kerry cancer Bus. Many thanks to all who supported it.
Bingo at our GAA Hall on Thursday nights. Jackpot this week €3,600, plus Christmas Raffle. And they’ll have Bingo on St.Stephens night as usual.
There’s fun and games at our local Library in Saturday December 21st from 10.30 to 11.30 suitable for 7-10 year olds.
A very pleasant Mass and Blessing ceremony, plus refreshments was held at our Credit Union last Tuesday night. And they are holding their AGM on this Thursday night starting at 8:30 sharp and all are welcome.
There’s a note here from our Knitting Club to say that over the months they have produced a large amount of knitted garments for an Orphanage in Albania. They also knit tiny garments for premature babies. Just a few of the many things that they do. It’s run by our Active retirement group and well done to all involved.
St. John’s club will hold their annual Christmas Day climb of Mushera Mountain. Proceeds will go to the Courtmacherry Lifeboats. Sponsorship cards from any member.
On St Stephens Day our GAA Club are holding a fundraising Walk around the Glebe. Starting out from the GAA Hall at 11am. And as its St. Stephens Day, there’s a prize for the best Dressed Wren Boy / Girl. Refreshments will be served at Coleman’s at the end of the walk.
And the Annual New Years day Dip in the Blackwater will go ahead as usual. Proceeds to charitable causes.
Out in Carriginma, the Christmas Vigil Mass will be said at 6 o’clock.
And in our Millstreet Parish Church the Christmas Night Mass will be at 10.30.pm
There’s an evening of Christmas Songs in the Hall in Clondrohid on Saturday, December 21st, starting at 8 and all are welcome.

Christmas though portrayed as a time of Joy and Happiness can also be a time of great want and loneliness. Please do not feel alone or left out or in need of food or clothing. There are voluntary bodies in every town, who are there to help.
And they work with great privacy and discretion in order to protect the feelings of those who are in need.
St Vincent de Paul branches are active throughout the Country, and their contact number is 087 959 79 00, which is displayed on the Church notice board.
Also IRD Duhallow are there to help, but they must be aware of the need,so please contact them at 02960633.
On Monday night a pleasant function was held at which the proceeds of the sale of the popular Down the Park Book were divided between our local branch of St. Vincent de Paul and our local hospital, they got €2,000 each.
At the Pub in Carriginma their Shavethon raised €2,000 for Cancer research .

The Eucharistic Chapel in our Church will be closed on December 24,25 and on December 31st and January 1st. Adoration will resume on January 7th 2014.
Please don’t forget the Penitential Rite Service which will be held in our Church to-night from 7 to 8.
The Blessed sacrament will be exposed and visiting priests will available for Confessions.
Christmas Thought Cards are available after all masses in the Sacristy or the Parish centre. At €5 for 3 and all returned cards will be placed on our Church Christmas Trees throughout the Christmas period.
And there will be special collection at all Christmas masses in aid of the Church Restoration Fund.
