Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1228 from Millstreet .Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this hazy Tuesday morning, the last one in July.
Sadly we said a fond farewell to our beloved Jugglers at the weekend. From 40 countries they endeared themselves to our entire Community during their stay. They infused an air of fun and wellbeing into us all. They performed their mighty skills in all sorts of places. On top of Clara Mountain. At Commatrush Lake, Kilmeedy Castle, Tubrid Well, to name just a few.
Sean Radley gave tours of the town every day, and there was a big turn out each time. The Sun shone for most of the time and it was lovely to see them in their hundreds, enjoying Millstreet Cuisine, while sitting on the edge of footpaths or walls and having the cupla focail with all around them.
Their behaviour was impeccable, and as I said, the Grand Parade on Saturday surpassed all expectations. A huge crowd lined the streets and they were not disappointed.
The Town looked beautiful following its recent facelift. And the Mini Festival organised by our Development Group added further enjoyment to the weekend.
The Karaoke Idol on Friday night was great fun. As was the Soap Box race on Sunday Afternoon.
But there is no time to sit back, with 18 countries already in place at the Green Glens, arriving since 6 o clock on Monday morning.
It was a speedy turn around. Exit Jugglers enter the European Pony Championships. It’s a sight in itself to see the huge horse wagons from all over Europe tightly squeezed into every inch of the parking spaces in the grounds of the Green Glens.
Parking for the general public for the duration of the Show will be in the grounds of the Community School.
The program for the week is wide and varied. For the next four days it will all be at the Green Glens.
Four Arenas for Show jumping and one for Dressage.
And on Saturday the Spectacular Cross Country event will be held in Drishane.
This is a first for this 300 area estate. And following months of preparation it is a sight to behold. Look out for the clever and novel use that has been made of the beautiful old trees that fell victim to the cruel storms of last winter. See the huge Millwheel
Slowly turning at the side of an ancient kiln that was used in the past to burn precious lime for neighbouring farms. New Water features and extensive replanting adding their own beauty to the scene.
Again parking is in the Community School Grounds. There are talks of Shuttle transport .Please check this out.
Every Night there will be a line-up of fun events, like you never saw before, in the Green Glens Arena all for your enjoyment.
Please keep an eye on the website and don’t miss a thing.
We wish the Duggan Family and this new venture, every success and God’s Blessing in the days ahead.
As I mentioned last week, the Jack & Jill Organisation will have a collection stand in the Arena all day for the duration of the Show. By kind permission of the Duggan Family.
Volunteers are welcome .If you’d like to help please approach the people in charge, on site. Or contact me at 086 316 32 85.
Any day any time would be appreciated.
