Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1238 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this bright Tuesday morning with plummeting temperatures. And a little ground fog.
It was a weekend of high spirits by any standards here in Millstreet. With the mighty Cork 20 International car Rally celebrating its centenary year, with all the thrills and spills of the high speed event. The town was beautifully decorated.
Roads were closed in many places, but nobody complained. The Green Glens was a mecca of cars, and teams to keep the racing cars going, while inside the building there was plenty to attract the children by way of free go-carting, simulators and lots more. Our pipe band was out to add their usual sparkle to the event ,and by the end of the weekend our tired but happy organising committee took a well-earned sigh of relief that all went so well. I want to congratulate them on a wonderful job well done.
Sean Radley was busy with his camera, so look up our website for the pictures.
And if that wasn’t enough for Millstreet in one weekend, the wonderful success of our glorious Football team in the County final on Saturday evening brought a real air of euphoria. The cars returning from the match which was played in Macroom, lit up the night sky, showing the wonderful support that they got. The last time that Millstreet won the County Final was in 1963 and since Saturday night the details of that glorious win are being teased out in every pub and shop. We can only wish the lads of 2014 the best of good luck in the final on Oct 25th.
Meanwhile over the weekend the Good People of Cullen held their Annual Harvest Thanksgiving Mass on Sunday. It’s an example that should be repeated by every Community, and individual, following our lovely long hot summer and Abundant Harvest that we’ve had. Well done to the People of Cullen.
Then on Monday night October 6th. A beautiful Mass was celebrated at the lovely chapel on the hill in Ballydaly in honour of Fr.Sean Tucker’s Golden Jubilee. There was a capacity crowd and four priests concelebrated the Mass and the local church choir attended. Following the Mass a grand reception was held in the Community Hall organised by the local social group. On behalf of our community I’d like to congratulate Fr. Sean on his 50th, and wish him the best of health and happiness in the years ahead.
As a point of interest Ballydaly church was opened on October 6th 1929 and Fr. Sean chose that date for his 50th.
