Solar Eclipse Obscured

A light cloud cover that moved in overnight blocked most from seeing the partial solar eclipse in Millstreet this morning. While most of us saw nothing other than it geting a little dark, the photo below taken by Jordan at Drishane View shows that it did at least make a brief appearance.

2014-03-20 Cloud cover @ 9am (infra-red from met eireann)There are a few more photos of the eclipse by Jordan. Many thanks to him for sharing the photo with us.

We had wall to wall sunshine yesterday, a clear starry night until about 3am when the clouds started to move in. At 9am we could see blue skies to the south in West Cork which was very annoying 😯

Today’s eclipse was a 92% eclipse.

Tom has a nice photo of what the rest of us experienced in a photo from Rathcoole Bridge.

http://c.tadst.com/gfx/eclipses/20260812/path-760.pngThe next partial eclipse will happen at 7:13pm on August 12th 2026 (path above), and at it’s nearest point will pass just to the south west of Ireland and will be a 97% eclipse, better than today and hopefully with better weather!

A total eclipse will then be seen in Cork and Kerry only in 2090 … probably won’t be seeing that one!
