Millstreet has emerged from one of its busiest weekends ever.
The Millstreet Welcome Tour, equestrian event which brought horses and horsey people from all over the country since April 2nd was an outstanding success. The Eventing on the planes of Drishane is proving very popular and is drawing the crowds.
A Gala Fundraising Dance with Liam O’Connor was held at the Green Glens Arena on Wednesday April 8th, and Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh was MC. A Great night was had by all.
The crowds also came for our two-day Walking Festival which was held on Saturday and Sunday. This time our organisers had four new Walks added, some more challenging, but walking enthusiasts took it all in their stride, literally.
LTV2 will have a new program on your screens this Thursday night. The Editor for this week is the popular Bernard Crowley.
It’s on UTube and it is very gratifying to know that people are logging in from Many parts of the World.
The next “Radio Treasures” on Cork Music Station www.corkmusicstation.com at 9.30pm until 11.00pm will be broadcast on Tuesday 21st April. There will not be a transmission of “Radio Treasures” on this Tuesday 14th April. Therefore part two of Jack Buckley’s interview will not be broadcast until 10pm on Tuesday week. (S.R.)
On Sunday, from 12.30 a very successful Feile Ceoil was held at the Community School.
The Divine Mercy Devotions were held in our Parish Church on Sunday at 3pm. It marked the closing of the Divine Mercy Novena which started on Good Friday and was continued in our church every day at 3pm since then. On Sunday the Church was a blaze of lighted candles and flowers,The Church choir attended as well as three priests, Canon John FitzGerald, Fr.Paddy O Byrne and Fr. Con Kiely. A capacity crowd attended. Baoichas le Dia.

So there was something for everyone in Millstreet over the weekend.
Its that time of year again when turf cutting coming into our minds, and our vibrant Turf Co-Op are having the AGM on tomorrow Wednesday night at the Canon O Donovan Center Starting at 9. to kick start another season. This Co-Op was formed in 1984 by a few farseeing locals and it has gone from strength to strength ever since. They encountered many growing pains at the outset, but today it is one of the most successful Co-Ops in the country.
Over twenty acres of ground has been cleared to date to enable the fresh wet peat to be spread out to dry. And the only problem they have now is that demand is exceeding supply. On behalf of all concerned I’d like to laud the organisers, and thank them for the great work that they do for our community.
The Transitional Students of our Community School will hold their Gala fashion Show at the Community School on Thursday April 23rd. with no less than ten stores taking part. Always a glittering event.
On Friday next, April 17th a Table Quiz will be held at the Moll Carty’s Bridge in aid of Pieto House. Please support it well. Starts at 9.
And a church gate collection will be held this weekend April 18/19th in Millstreet Ballydaly and Cullen in aid Disabled Drivers
Aubane Social Club 40th anniversary Social at The Riverside Hotel in Macroom this Saturday night April 18th. A few tickets are still available from some Members.

Our Gramaphone Monthly Circle meeting will be held at the Canon O Donovan Centre, This Friday Night April17th ,starting as always at 8.15 . Presenter Eddie Horgan, from Cork.
And a million congratulations to James Winters who is home from his 156 mile gruelling run across the scorching Sahara Dessert. Nephew of our own Fr.Paddy O Byrne, all his efforts were in aid of Millstreet Hospital and Kanturk Hospital where his dad is a patient for some time and for cancer. For the first three days they ran 26 miles then on Wednesday they ran 52 miles and 26 again on Friday. His Family and friends were at the Airport to welcome home their 42yr old hero. who is an executive employee of Johnson & Johnson Pharmacutical Company.
