Death Notice: Jim Cronin, Cork & Kilmeedy

2006 Jim CroninCronin (Woodbrook, Bishopstown and late of Millstreet) On April 26th 2015, peacefully in the tender care of the staff of Oaklodge Nursing Home, Jim (late of Dulux and former Chairman of the Cork County Board). Beloved husband of Nuala (nee Murphy) and loving father of Marie, Dermot, Brian and Shay. Sadly missed by his loving wife, family, grandchildren Sarah, Louise, Jill, Gael, Ciara, Sean, Christian, Rebecca and Jamie, daughters-in-law Soazig, Caroline and Áine, Marie’s partner Tim, nephews Gerard, Timmy and James, niece Rose, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Sullivans Funeral Home, Turners Cross. Rosary Monday (27th) at 7.30pm. Removal Tuesday (28th) at 7.00pm to Church of the Real Presence, Curraheen Road. Requiem Mass Wednesday (29th) at 2.00pm, funeral afterwards to St. Oliver’s Cemetery. Family flowers only please, donations in lieu to Alzheimer’s Society. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

from CorkGAA.ie: It is with regret we announce the passing of former Cork County Board Chairman (2000-2002), Jim Cronin, RIP. Mr. Cronin was a lifelong member of the Millstreet club and represented the club as County Board delegate for many years.

A renowned author and GAA historian, he published a number of books now regarded as priceless reference points by fans, quizmasters and statisticians, including A Rebel Hundred – Cork’s 100 All-Irelands and Cork GAA History 1886-1986.

He was elected County PRO in (1994-1996) and went on to serve as Board Vice-Chairman (1997-1999) and County Board Chairman from 2000-2002. At the time of his death he was Honorary Vice-President, Cork County Board.

The Officers and Board members extends their sympathies to his wife Nuala, daughter Marie and sons Brian, Dermot and Shay.

  1. Jim was such a true gentleman of the very highest calibre. Millstreet will forever remember the official launch of his magnificent publication “Millstreet’s Green and Gold” in the 1980s. This as well as his many other brilliant publications on which he worked with inspiring dedication have now become hugely important reference works especially in the G.A.A. world. He has been such an Ambassador Supreme for Millstreet and Cork throughout his life. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
