This week we salute Lena Kelleher who recently retired following almost 30 years as treasured Matron of our local Community Hospital. Lena was a nurse there for 10 years before that. Her devoted staff gave Lena a meaningful send off, and at a later date she will be furthered be honoured by our Community Council in appreciation of the wonderful work that she has done for countless numbers of our people over the years. On leaving she ceremoniously handed over the Keys to Noreen McSweeney , who will be our acting Matron.
Our Pipe Band are preparing well to play at the Munster Final which will be held in Killarney on Sunday. Children are getting a great thrill by following the band round the Town Park during their practice sessions .
The popular Mary Hickie featured well in the crowd on Satuday night at the Miriam O Callaghan Show. Her Lovely Daughter Aileen and her popular husband Matt Cooper, were on the panel, and were enjoyed by all. If you missed it, it can be seen RTE Playback.
The annual Cullen Harvest Afternoon in aid of their Special Needs Association will be held on July 19th .
And their Annual Young at Heart Evening Out will take place on July 28th so please keep those dates free.
There’s a note to say many thanks to all those who supported the recent church gate collection in aid of Courtmacherry Lifeboats.
Many Congratulations to Ann Keane and her sister Ruben who launched their lovely CD at the Corner House Bar in Cork at the weekend. And the good news is that they will have a launch in Millstreet at a later date. This CD will be a must for your collection.
Our Beautiful Country Park is pulling out all the stops this season to present a wide variety of programs. Their exciting Summer Camp starts on tomorrow Wednesday July 1st. And the dates are July 1-3 and from July 6-8 .

There is a note from Breda at our local Library in the Carnegie Hall, inviting you to come and take part in the Millstreet Community Arts, this week. From July 1st – 4th and work with work with local Artist Supreme Amanda Wright to create a piece of art to hang on the Library Wall. The theme Under the Sea. Confined to about 15 places .

Our Pope Francis who has proved himself the most practicle and down to earth pontiff in a long time is very concerned about the environment and he had published an Encyclical on the subject copies of which are available at our Parish Office (029 70043) at €5 each. A talk on the subject will be given by Fr. Donal Dorr on September 28th. Further details later.
A note from Jack Lane to say that a monument will be erected in memory on Padraig Pearse in Millstreet in August in memory of his visit to Millstreet on August 22nd 1915.
An important information meeting about the Bearra/Brefni Way was held in North Tipperary last week. Millstreet was represented by Michael and Marian O Sullivan. And they were encouraged by the progress that is being made to erect a bridge over the Blackwater at Dooneen.
They were very taken by the trogen work that has been done and continues to be done by the mighty Jim O Sullivan of Castletown Bearr in getting this epic walk through the country brought to fruition. He deserves all the help that we can give him to achieve this great tourist attraction for our Country.
The inclement weather over the weekend proved very trying for those who had planned ourdoor events. BBQs or relaxing stroles were put on hold or abandoned. Only the strong survived. But with the onset of the month of July we can hope for better days ahead. Flowers and gardens are not in need of watering and that is a blessing in itself.
Don’t forget to come out every Thursday evening and join out Tidy Towns Group at the weekly cleanup. They meet at the town Square at 7pm and all the nessessary equipment will be provided.
Eucharistic Adoration in our Church every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.30 am to 10.30 pm. In Cullen on Thursdays from 10am to 7pm. Confessions in Millstreet every Saturday from 12.30 to 1.
There are two Defibillators in the Town for public use.Provided and maintained by the Community Council. One at the door of the Community Centre in the West End at the other at the Door of the Garda Barracks.
