This interesting piece appeared in a a local newspaper 100 years ago, July 1915, gives an idea of some of the anti-British sentiment that existed at the time (from Cork 1914 to 1924)
Millstreet Petty Sessions Court by a majority fined Timothy Shea of Carriganima 5 pounds and bound him to the peace for shoting when passing Corporal Hickey 9th Lancers: “Up Germany”; and Daniel Moynihan for saying at a recruiting meeting (though he denied the allegation): “Up the Kaiser, any way” was fined 10s, and bound over.
