Millstreet native Fintan Cronin is embarking on an arduous Route 66 fundraiser in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
Next September, Fintan is amongst a group of Irish men and women traversing the USA, tracing the route of the old road from their departure in Chicago and hit the open road for eight days, before they ride up Sunset Boulevard in California to compete their journey.
“Over 500 enduring kilometres will be travelled daily for eight days, more than the length of Ireland every day. This route is a known challenge particularly when its has to be done in so short a time frame in all weather conditions”, said Fintan.
Temple Street is the first port of call for tens of thousands of children every year suffering from illness and injury. Its aim is to help sick children by making their stay in hospital less distressing for them and their families, by funding the purchase of medical equipment, developing new services, funding research and developing new treatment facilities.
“I intend to complete the Route 66 challenge, raise money for the Temple Street cause and I would appreciate very much sponsorship. My target is to raise in excess of €14,000 and I’m personally covering the cost of my own travelling expenses”, said Fintan.
