Good morning, Patricia and greetings, dear Listeners, from Millstreet in Co. Cork, Ireland mentioned for the benefit of our many online Listeners worldwide on the c103 website. But we begin on a sad note as we remember the late Mary O’Connor of “Duneden”, Boherbue who along with the late Tadhg O’Driscoll established the very popular Millstreet Gramophone Circle some years ago. Mary who went to her Eternal Reward on Sunday, was such a true Lady of the highest calibre who shared many musical gems with numerous Gramophone Circles from her fascinating collection of treasured recordings. For almost thirty years Mary had dedicatedly devoted her great musical talents and sincere energy to the Boherbue Church Choir. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

As we know, the spectacular Vintage Family Fun Day takes place at Green Glens on Easter Sunday and now in aid of the Millstreet Parish Capital Fund a Grand Draw will take place to help alleviate the Parish €2.6 million debt. There are some quite fascinating prizes presented by very generous local Sponsors. Tickets @ €2.00 each or a book of 3 for €5.00 are widely available. The Draw will take place at this mega event in Green Glens on Easter Sunday. And on LTV2 this Thursday representatives from the Co-ordinating Group will be interviewed in our Studio.
Moira O’Keeffe reminds us that the final night approaches for the Cullen & District Special Needs Association’s Annual Sponsored Weight Loss Programme as it comes to an end next Monday night, 29th March 2010. The enthusiastic participants are asked to bring their sponsorship cards and money with them on that night – a night which is always such an enjoyable occasion. And fifty people weighed in at Cullen on this Monday night with an overall weight loss of forty-eight pounds.
On Saturday night we got to hear a truly excellent Band called “Loose Connection” at the wonderfully welcoming Glen Theatre in Banteer. And an exclusive for LTV2. At Charleville Park Hotel on Sunday night, with William Fitzgerald on camera, we got to interview Mary, Dervla & Derek of “Crystal Swing”. This was quite an historic occasion in that it was their final night as a three-piece Band. As they prepare to perform in prestigious venues like Cork’s Opera House and the Royal Theatre in Waterford later in the season, extra Band members will be joining them. Since their rise to worldwide musical fame (even featuring on a primetime American television Show) “Crystal Swing” had so much to share with us in the interview which will be broadcast on LTV2’s Programme 163 on Thursday, 8th April 2010 when the editor will be William Fitzgerald. So please keep an eye out for that special feature. ) Do check out their most impressive website for all the many video clips of their television appearances including the “Late Late”, “The Afternoon Show” and more.
And speaking of superb websites www.millstreet.ie must rate as one of the most interesting on the Internet. Special thanks to Hannelie O’Connor and Michael Cashman for such hugely appreciated commitment to our local website – updated not only daily but two and three times every day! For example, on the homepage at the moment there are some truly excellent aerial photographs of our St. Patrick’s Day parade 2010, the weekly Parish Newsletter, this very Regional Report (with additions) and a wealth of excellent poems from Francis Duggan, originally from Millstreet and now residing in Australia….mentioning just these special features to whet the appetite for an amazing amount of Millstreet parish related items.
Sincere congrats. to the victorious Under-16 (and a half) Camogie Team from Millstreet Community School who won the Co. Championship at Millstreet Town Park on Saturday.
Finally, a thought on which to reflect: “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it!”
