The AGM of the Community Council was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday November 17th. And at the election of officers the existing committee was re-elected in bloc.
In his address Chairman Noel Buckley gave an in depth account of many of the projects that the council has been involved in over the years. It was gratifying to note that many of the developments were slow in getting off the ground, but are now doing extremely well. It was never the intention of the Council to make lots of money, their main aim was to provide services for the community which were in par those of the outside world.
The Day-Care centre, the youth complex , the adult gym, the creche, the children’s playground, to name but a few were challenging at the start, but are now running smoothly. The Astro Turf pitch took off right away and is one of our best earners.
We wish the Committee continued success in the year 2016.
Still with the Community Council they are in the process of setting up a Community Text Alert System in the Millstreet area in association with the Garda Siocana. For a number of weeks they have asked the public to give in their names to members of the council. A meeting has been arranged by the Gardai to be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Wednesday December 2nd and all those who gave in their names will be contacted attend. The Council is aware that many others who, for one reason or another, didn’t ring in, but they are welcome to turn up on the night. Everybody will be asked to fill a form, giving their name address and mobile phone number. It costs €10 per year.
Again the co-operation of the public is needed to see that neighbours or family members are aware that this important scheme is due to be adopted and help them to become members.
