Dia is Mhuire diobh go leir a Cairde .

The recent meeting organised by the community Council and the Gardai to set up a Text Alert system in Millstreet area was very well supported.

Superindendent Michael FitzGerald, Community Garda Johnnie Crowley, Sergeant Ian O Callaghan & Sergean. Paul Lynch, attended.

It was a wonderful occasion when our garda force came on board in a friendly and informative way to explain in detail the advantage it would be to have a text alert system in our area .An outline was given of the crimes that have been committed here in the past, and telling the public what to look out for.

There was time for questions and answers before people were given forms to sign. The meeting ended with some lovely refreshments which gave the members of the garda force  the opportunity to mingle with the crowd in a friendly and helpful way.

For those who missed the meeting , please know that members of the Community Council, can still help you to join.

Hurricane Desmond continues to  lash the Country as we speak.

Baoichas le Dia , it has done no serious damage in the greater Millstreet area. Having said that we were not without our challenges to remain safe. Work on the new bridge across the Blackwater at Dooneen had to stop and the work so far was put to the test to stand up to the ravishes of the mighty Blackwater.

The  tall Christmas  tree in the town Square remains intact, thanks to the good work that was done in placing it there.

The Bear in the Square is enjoying great acclaim because when the weather is fine, everybody wants to be pictured sitting at his feet, and pictures are sent to friends, all over the world.

Further trees and decorations were placed at our Chapel yard and out in Ballydaly in recent days. Again well done to our army of helpers.

In spite of the weather, the Cullen & District Friends of the Handicapped went ahead with their annual Mass and Christmas party on Saturday. And a fine crowd attended.

Well done (again) to our poet supreme Francie Duggan with his latest composition. But this time with a difference. Francie has thrilled us over the years with his words ,always so aptly put, about so many of our people who have passed away. This time I loved his words relating to his departure from his native Claracleagh, 29 years ago. Touching words that evoked so many memories. Thank You, Francie.

And I’d like to send special Christmas greeting to a Polish Man  whose name is Magic and his lovely wife Anna. Magic worked locally for a building firm for many years and he was delighted every year to be asked to help with the putting up of the Christmas tree in the town Square. On leaving he said that he would come back every year  to put up our Christmas tree. But alas conditions at home did not allow him .But we’d like to send our best wishes to this lovely couple and their little boy Simon. And hope that this year, Magic can put up the Christmas tree in his own town square, in Poland.
