The new monthly magazine entitled Duhallow Today, has been very well received. It looks bright and cheerful, and it provides a new means of information about all the goods and services that are available in the North Cork region plus lots of news. Next issue is due out at the start of May.
Many people are without Internet and WiFi since the weekend and the dreadful weather on Sunday did nothing to ease the situation. Countless events and fixtures had to deferred or cancelled leading to a lot of disappointment.
But a few die-hards did succeed in sticking to their program. A 1916 Memorial Commeration event went ahead in Millstreet on Sunday as planned. Starting with Mass in our parish church at 2.30 pm. Our Community Singers, took part, with solos sung As Gaelige by Diarmuid Kelleher and Kathleen Philpot .
In torrential rain and high winds the parade then proceeded through the town and following a brief stop at the Monument the followers retired to the function room at the Wallis Arms Hotel where they continued with their planned program.
Millstreet Tidy Town Association in conjunction with Cork County Council are delighted to announce, Team Millstreet Clean-Up, on Saturday 16th April 2016 from 10am to 1pm. The People of Carriganima are pulling out all the stops to make their contribution to the Centenery celebrations an occasion to be proud of. It will be held in the Village in April 24th starting at 1pm.
A re-enactment of Padraig Pearse’s address to local volunteers and the unveiling of a Plaque is included in their program. Following the ceremony their will be music provided in the Pub by the popular Spailpin.
And while they celebrate a hundred years of a free State, the people of Carriganima will also celebrate the 50th birthday of their beloved pub man Seanie Murphy.
Local TV crews will be there as always to capture it all for posterity.
Still with April 23/24 Our walks committee are holding their Annual walking Festival that weekend in association with the TidyTown and Tourism Association. They have worked out a program with walks to suit every walkers need. All starting out from the Wallis Arms Hotel and checking in there at journeys end.

The new bridge over the Blackwater at Dooneen stood up well the Sundays flooding , claimed locally to have been the highest ever. However ,flood damage around the site will need further attention.

Maybe its hard to believe it but its that time of year again when our vibrant TidyTowns Committee are preparing to swing into action for the year ahead. But it will take the help and goodwill of every person to get the right results. Please keep in touch and be there for their weekly clean-ups .
But be vigillent at all times both in town and on approach roads.
It is maddening to have to pick up after other people, but do it, maybe in time they’ll get the message.
And make a point of keeping your own place presentable. Plant flowers and shrubs, and paint any eyesores that can spoil the scene.
And please be reminded that many of our visitors over the next few months will visiting our Graveyards, and there are notices up by the o.Council asking people to keep these important places free of litter.

As a part of the Lifelong learning Festival based in Mallow this week, Millstreet Community Singers are performing in Mallow Library on this Saturday 16th April from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Everybody welcome to come and listen to this talented group of singers whose motto is to sing for fun and with freedom. Some members will speak on how joining the group has been life-changing for them and how the emphasis is always to enjoy ourselves through song. They produced a very successful CD last year and are enjoying performing as invited guests at many functions on a regular basis.Drop in to hear them on Saturday.
Disgusting irresponsible dog owners – constantly finding dog poo on the pavement outside my house. Some dog owners are highly irresponsible and the punishment should be far greater. Please Keep Millstreet Tidy!
