Eily report small imageDia is Muire díobh go léir a chairde and welcome to my report from Millstreet. It’s hard to think of anything else here in Millstreet this week other than the World Mounted Team Games Championships.

It’s a long name for any event but it’s worth it all when you think of this event which is bringing 20 teams from all over the globe into Millstreet, representing Ireland ,Northern Ireland, France, Belgium, South Africa, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Scotland, England, Wales, Italy, New Zealand, America, Australia & Canada. The Championships are held in a different country every year. This year it’s in Millstreet , Ireland. And we are justly proud that our world class facility has been chosen to host this world class event which will run from Tuesday to Saturday, July 12-16.

Already the huge horse wagons are rolling into town as they make their way to the Green Glens Arena where no stone has been left unturned to meet the needs of the multitudes. The 130 horse/ponies will be stabled on the grounds.

And there’s parking for the huge number of lorries, campers, tents, cars etc..

The opening ceremony will take place this evening Tuesday ,comprising of a gala parade through the town.starting at 6.30.It will be led by   popular Pipe Band and be followed by all the teams on Horseback. The reviewing stand will be at the Wallis Arms Hotel and the town will be decorated with flags and bunting and colourful displays. Then all are invited to go along to the Green Glens for a gala concert given by Liam O Connor. The approach Roads to the town are bearing posters ,each welcoming an         Individual Country to Millstreet.

What a powerful tourist advertisement for our country.

Tomorrow Wednesday the program starts at the Green Glens. Already the course is marked out for the competitions. And seating on the perimeter.

The good news is that like all events at the Green Glens admission is free and with children on holidays it will be an enjoyable place for all the family.

During their stay the visitors will be treated to the sights of Millstreet. Visit the Museum, sign the visitors book plus Conducted tours of the town. The climb of ClaraMountain on Thursday evening to name but a few.

On Saturday night a pricey banquet will be held at the Green Glens .

On behalf of our community, our Community Council want to extend a real Millstreet Welcome to all our visitors.    We hope they enjoy their stay and I want to wish every success
