Farewell to Jack Roche
He went with a sigh
no heavier than a feather.
He sank without fear
into the deep shadow.
He lacks nothing;
he is at peace.
The inner emptiness,
the sense of loss
are ours not his.
The one remaining task
is for the ajŏsshi (the boy)
who guards the pearly gates to ask,
‘Where you go?’
I feel sure he’ll answer,
‘Ŭijŏngbu. I’m going home’.
