The 17th issue of the Sliabh Luachra Journal, published by Cumann Luachra, a local history society in the Cork/Kerry border area, will be launched on Friday, November 25.
The 120-page souvenir edition has a special focus on the 1916 Rising centenary, including the death of Captain Patrick O’Connor, of Rathmore, in Dublin during the Rising.
A booklet published with the journal contains a shortened version of Spiorad na Saoirse, an epic poem written by Fr Patrick Dinneen, best known for his Irish dictionary, in the aftermath of 1916.
There are also articles on traditional Irish music, the GAA, the activities of Whiteboys during agrarian troubles in the area and the O’Keeffe Clan, in north Cork, to mention just some of the subjects covered.
Fr Pat Moore will officially launch the journal in Gneeveguilla GAA Club, at 8.30pm, on Friday. Everybody welcome.
We thank Dónal Hickey, Journalist supreme, for alerting us to this important Launch. (S.R.)
