Millstreet Weekend Retreat to Limerick in September 1966

We extend sincere thanks to Thomas Galvin, Murphy’s Terrace, Millstreet for presenting this wonderfully historical image to Millstreet Museum of the September 1966 Men’s Weekend Retreat to the Redemptorist Retreat House in Limerick.   Bertie Buckley has provided the all-important caption to the photograph which will undoubtedly evoke such special memories of the Annual Retreat of a bygone era.   On our “Radio Treasures” programme on this Tuesday, 24th Sept. 2024 on Cork Music Station we shall make mention of the memories evoked.   Tap on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)

A Reminder of Tubrid Holy Well Very Special Event at 8pm

A Reminder of Tubrid Holy Well Very Special Event at 8pm tonight – Culture Night – 20th Sept. 2024 – when the magnificent Votive Wreaths, superbly created yesterday at Millstreet Library by many artistic and enthusiastic people, will be installed between 8pm and 9pm – floating beautifully on the calm water of the Holy Well in this wonderful Haven of Peace and Tranquility.   It promises to be a truly memorable occasion when tributes are paid to the memory of many in such a symbolic manner.  (S.R.)

Millstreet Town Park Committee are saddened and frustrated to report that the newly installed picnic benches in Millstreet Town Park were vandalised last night. This is extremely upsetting, as these benches were placed for everyone’s enjoyment and to enhance our shared space.

We kindly request that whoever is responsible for this act come forward and take immediate steps to remove the damage. Now is the chance to correct this poor choice, and we encourage you to make amends.

As we fondly remember Donal on his First Anniversary, we his family wish to acknowledge the overwhelming kindness and support shown to us by everyone during our sad loss, for the many mass cards received, all who brought floral tributes and the many beautiful condolence messages on R.I.P.ie, to those who travelled long distances and all who attended the rosary and funeral mass.

A special word of thanks to our very kind neighbours, good friends family & extended family. To all who brought food to our home and helped out with the catering.

Our sincere thank you to the following, Dr. Christine Walsh McCarthy and all the staff at Millstreet Medical Centre,  Reens Pharmacy Millstreet. To all the staff on 4D & 3B of CUH who cared for Donal with great compassion & empathy, to Public Health nurses, Community Nurses, Marymount Hospice, Homeinstead Carers especially Donal’s good friend Nadeem.

Sincere gratitude to all involved in Donal’s funeral. To Collins Army Barricks Cork for giving Donal the send off he truly deserved. To Garda Kevin O’ Dwyer for escorting Donal to his final resting place. To Davy, Cora, Declan & Martina of Tarrants Funeral Directors for their outstanding professionalism, help, advice and great support at such a difficult time. To Jerry Doody, Margaret Kiely and Hannah Mary Tarrant for the beautiful music at mass. To all those who directed traffic. To Millstreet Gun Club & Kanturk Golf Club for your very thoughtful guard of honour. To Fr Tom Leane for calling to our home. A special thank you to Fr Jim Kennelly for celebrating a beautiful funeral Mass. To Canon John Fitzgerald for assisting at the graveside.

As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually please accept this acknowledgment as an expression of our deepest gratitude. The holy sacrifice of Mass has been offered for your intentions.

Donal’s First Anniversary mass will be held in Derrinagree Church on Saturday the 21st of September at 7:30pm.

 

       We miss your smiles, your joking ways,

       We miss the things you used to say.

       And when old times we do recall,

       It’s then we miss you most of all.
